MEDIA RELEASE NOVEMBER 2012 – SECOND LINE-UP ANNOUNCEMENT KATIE NOONAN | REGURGITATOR

In December 1992, a new music venue opened in Brisbane. Situated in the heart of Fortitude Valley which was then something of Brisbane inner city wasteland – THE ZOO offered free pool, cheap food, was open in the daytime and had a very simple stage and PA setup. Local bands took notice and within a very short time, it had become the focal point of the Brisbane music scene which was going through an incredible renaissance at that time. Since then, THE ZOO has become one of the most famous and highly regarded venues in Australia, playing host to local, national and international bands too numerous to mention, as well as performance events, weddings, exhibitions, video shoots and film screenings. Looking back over the staff list is like reading a who’s who of the Brisbane music and arts industry – ‘The Zooies’ have formed the heart of the venue and contributed in so many ways to make the venue a truly unique phenonemon.
Leading the venue through 20 years is co-founder Joc Curran who has this to say: “The Zoo means love, family, community, heat, 20 years, music, friendships, floor boards, roses, laughter, tears, breakages, discoveries and life. My highlights and personally favourite shows include ben harper, dirty three and nick cave, the pixies – playing this monkey’s gone to heaven for just me! – and the ghosts, the national, and all the Zooie bands I have come to know and love over my time here.”
Saturday 15 December 2012 sees the Zoo celebrating 20 years and a star-studded line-up of bands is forming, representing all eras of the venue through the nineties, the noughties and now.
